On some motherboards an 8 pin connector is required to provide extra power for the CPU. Without the extra power the machine will not boot.
If you are using an older style ATX power supply, it will not come with an 8 pin connector, but should have the standard 4 pin CPU connector.
To make the connection from your ATX power supply to the motherboard you can purchase a 4 pin to 8 pin adapter.
The 8 pin adapter has 4 yellow and 4 black wires.
