If you are new to the Gnome desktop, you access your applications by clicking on the widget in the top left hand corner of your desktop and then searching for the application you would like to start.

If you would like to make Gnome a bit more user friendly, I suggest installing the following extensions.

- Apps Menu
Adds a category based menu of installed programs

- Places Status Indicator
Places based menu

- Windows list
Displays a Windows list at the bottom of the screen

The easiest way to install these extensions is to install the flatpack version. Enter the following in the terminal

flatpak install flathub com.mattjakeman.ExtensionManager

Once installed you can run the flatpak from the terminal using the following command.
run com.mattjakeman.ExtensionManager

You can also launch extensions from the Apps Menu
