How do I disable paragraph spacing when composing emails on Thunderbird

I have been using Thunderbird as my email client for over three years, but one thing that has bugged me is how to reduce the paragraph spacing, for example when your signing off emails in the screen shots below.

With paragraph spacing
Thunderbird with paragraph spacing enabled

Without paragraph spacing
Thunderbird with paragraph spacing disabled

Open Thunderbird then Edit >> Preferences

Thunderbird preferences page

Under the general tab, uncheck the box that reads Use Paragraph format instead of Body Text by default

When you compose your next email in Thunderbird, the spacing will be disabled.
